About the class:
This class is aimed at beginners—it will provide you with everything you need to start practicing your classic artisan sourdough loaf! Because sourdough is such a labor of love, practice, and patience, don’t expect to craft perfection right away…but DO expect to walk away with a solid foundation of the principles and science of sourdough baking.
Along with detailed in-person instruction and hands-on practice, you will take home all the physical essentials needed to get practicing:
◦ starter
◦ banneton (proofing basket) and liner
◦ lame (blade for scoring)
◦ proofing bowl
◦ info packet with detailed recipe, tips, & FAQs
◦ your first loaf to bake at home!
About the teacher:
I studied Arabic and Economics, lived in several countries, and speak several languages... and although I liked to imagine myself abroad solving the world’s problems, for now I’ve settled into simply enjoying the depth that diverse cultures, ideas, and flavors bring to life.
When I moved to Provo over a decade ago, I was disappointed at the lack of fresh bread (or, any bakeries that weren’t mostly donuts and cookies!). I decided to learn to make my own, and fell in love with sourdough. I approach it as both a science and an art—and like any true craft, mastering the basics will eventually give you the freedom to get creative.
This year I finally left my corporate job to start “Dat Sour Dough,” a micro-bakery focused on fresh, artisan sourdough made with ancient grains, diverse flavors, and truly exceptional craft. In a way I’m still living my dream of solving the world’s problems…by bringing people together over healthy, delicious food.
